"Chicago" is a musical set in the 1920s where two female murderers, Roxie Hart (a chorus girl) and Velma Kelly (a vaudeville star), compete for the spotlight and media attention while incarcerated in Cook County Jail, using the slick lawyer Billy Flynn to manipulate the press and potentially secure their freedom through a sensational trial, all while satirizing the obsession with fame and the justice system in Chicago.
