Hansel and Gretel is about the siblings, Hansel and Gretel, who are abandoned in a forest and fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a gingerbread, cake, and candy house. The evil witch plans to fatten the children before eating them, but Gretel outwits her and kills her.

School Holiday Musical Theatre Program – Coming April 2025!
Upstage Theatre Company, in collaboration with Cardinia Cultural Centre, presents an exciting School Holiday Program featuring a modern pantomime performance of Hansel & Gretel! Written by Scott J. Hili and directed by Cathy Lord, this program is designed to develop confidence, performance skills, and musical theatre abilities in young performers. PROGRAM OUTLINE
Week 1
In Week 1 of Upstage Theatre Company’s School Holiday Program, young performers will dive into the exciting world of musical theatre through interactive workshops and rehearsals for our modern pantomime, Hansel & Gretel. Led by industry professionals, participants will develop acting, singing, and movement skills, while building confidence and teamwork. The week will include script readings, character exploration, vocal coaching, choreography sessions, and creative games, all designed to enhance performance abilities in a fun and supportive environment. By the end of the week, students will be well-prepared to bring their characters to life in the final production!
Week 2
In Week 2, the excitement builds as young performers refine their acting, singing, and movement skills in full-scale rehearsals for Hansel & Gretel! With guidance from industry professionals, participants will focus on staging, character development, and ensemble work, bringing the production to life. Dress rehearsals and technical run-throughs will prepare them for the final performance, where they’ll showcase their hard work on stage at Cardinia Cultural Centre. This week is all about confidence, teamwork, and the joy of performing in front of a live audience!
