We are seeking a dynamic and diverse cast for our upcoming production of Chicago – The Musical. This unique reimagining encompases a " Vaudeville stage design' to enhance the storytelling of iconic characters such as Roxie, Velma, Amos, and Billy.
Our vision prioritises inclusivity and comfort, moving away from traditional costuming expectations.

Principal Roles
​

Roxie Hart: Strong triple-threat female-identifying performer required

Velma Kelly: Strong triple-threat female-identifying performer required, open age.

Billy Flynn: Strong triple-threat male-identifying performer required. Tap dance ability optional, Open age.

Amos Hart: Strong acting and vocal performer with movement skills required, open age.

Mamma Morton - Female identifying Strong Singer/Actor required

Mary Sunshine - A drag role male identifying to play a woman is required for this role open age.
Additional Roles

Murderesses: (6 roles)

Seeking female or male identifying performers with strong acting and vocal abilities.

Movement and Basic Dance Required.
Female Ensemble (6 roles)

Seeking strong female identifying dancers with advanced dance capabilities who can carry a tune

Will perform as Showgirls for dream sequence numbers.

May be scantily clad throughout the show
Male Ensemble (6 roles)

Seeking male-identifying performers to portray security guards and portray the roles of Fred Casely, Sergeant Fogarty, Master of Ceremonies and other characters.

Vocal
Friday June 6 - 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Saturday June 7 - 10:00 am- 5:00pm

Auditions will be 8 minutes
​
Please prepare one song (no more than 2 minutes) of an Uptempo or Ballad in the style of the show from a classic or contemporary Musical Theatre repertoire pre 1950's.
​
All songs must be in a plastic display folder for the pianist to clearly read and turn pages in the correct key (no transposing will be done)
​
Please have any cuts marked clearly and highlighted.
​
Backing tracks can be used, however you will need to bring your own speaker or device.

Acting
This will be part of your Vocal Audition
​
Please prepare a comedy Monologue, books down (no paper in hand) that shows off your acting ability. No more than 2 minutes.

Dance
Monday 9th June
7:30pm - 8:30pm Movement
8:30pm - 10:00pm Dance

All auditionees must attend a dance or movement audition. This session will be allocated at your vocal/acting audition.

If you are more a mover than an "dancer"
​
All auditionees must attend a dance or movement audition. Please wear comfortable clothes and female identifying dancers will be required to wear chorus heels, and tap shoes. Male identifying performers choosing to audition for the role of a murderess should bring heels if you have them.

Casting
There are no specific contracted casting requirements for this show. However, our production team prioritises representation on stage, aiming for diversity in casting as a core value. We embrace diversity in all its aspects, believing it fosters a safer and richer environment, elevates the artistic quality of the show, mirrors Australian society more authentically, and enhances the final product's overall quality. By advocating for inclusive and equitable casting practices, we aspire to contribute to normalising these standards in Victorian amateur theatre.

Casting will be completed on the night of the final callbacks and ALL auditionees will be informed that evening upto 12:00am midnight. Please leave your phones on and be availble to take the call.

A Note on Costumes
​
Please be aware that some roles, particularly those auditioning for showgirls, may involve costumes that are more revealing in certain production numbers. These costume choices have been thoughtfully designed to align with the overall artistic vision and aesthetic of the production, while also prioritising the comfort, dignity, and consent of all cast members. Finalised Costume designs for these roles will be developed and take into cosideration the performers who are sucessfull in casting.
Call Back Material
Call backs will be held on Wednesday 11th June.

You will be notified by SMS if you have received a call back for a specific part after the dance/movement audition on Monday June 9th.
​
PLEASE NOTE:
Not all roles may be required for a call back.
Casting will take place on Wednesday 11th June after the call backs.
Everyone who auditions will receive either a phone call or SMS sometime on Thursday June 12 from 5pm onwards.
Casting is not absolutely final until after the Call Backs.
